Dato' Dr Vijaya Sangkar

Dr. Vijaya Sangkar completed his undergraduate degree (MBBS) in University of Malaya and was awarded the University Malaya’s Senate Book Prize and Kind Edward’s College Alumni Medal for distinction in MBBS. He has served in both East and West Malaysia in his initial years of residency training.Dr Sangkar joined the University of Malaya Medical Centre(UMMC) for post graduate internal medicine training and obtained the Membership of Royal College of Physicians, UK. Subsequently served as a general physician in a government general hospital where his interest was augmented with the initiation of a new haematology clinic before returning to UMMC for further training in clinical haematology and stem cell transplantation. After completion of his clinical training at UMMC, Dr Sangkar pursued further advanced haematology training which encompassed clinical pathology and stem cell transplantation at the prestigious Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research, Westmead Hospital in Sydney, Australia. Follow up from this hands on training experience, he passed the Fellowship of The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia examinations and was awarded the FRCPA(Haem) degree. He has served as a Consultant Haematologist at the UMMC and currently still holds a Visiting Consultant position. He is actively involved in post graduate internal medicine and haematology teaching , whereby he is regularly invited to give lectures. He has co-authored several national clinical practice guidelines. He is currently a life member of Malaysian Society of Haematology and a member of the Malaysian Academy of Medicine.
