Dr Christina Ng Van Tze

Medical Oncologist

Dr Christina Ng, MBBS, FRACP, is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Pantai Hospital KL. She was previously at University Malaya Medical Center, a position she had held since returning to Malaysia in 2003. She is also an Honorary Consultant to the Clinical Research Centre of the Ministry of Health Malaysia. She served on the Faculty of the Australia and Asia Pacific Clinical Oncology Research Development Workshop.

Dr Ng received her medical training in Australia at the University of Melbourne. She received her Australian Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and served as a Consultant Oncologist in Melbourne before her last position at UMMC. She was a Research Fellow at the Austin Research Institute as well as the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Melbourne.

In the course of her professional career, Dr Ng has presented and chaired at numerous meetings and conferences. Her publications and lectures are predominantly in the field of breast and colorectal cancer, areas of particular interest to Dr Ng. She launched “MY JOURNAL” in 2007, a book she wrote to empower and educate patients on chemotherapy for cancer. The 2nd edition of this book in 4 languages (English, Mandarin, Malay, Tamil) will be launched in 2010. 8000 copies will be distributed in Malaysia through EMPOWERED.

At UMMC, Dr Ng introduced drug access programs, patient education programs, targeted therapies for breast, colorectal, kidney and lung cancer, plus a multi-disciplinary approach that substantially improved the quality of patient care. Through Dr Ng’s efforts, numerous drug grants from pharmaceutical companies have been awarded to allow access of the latest cancer drugs to patients receiving treatment at UMMC.

Dr Ng is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Physicians, Member of the Malaysian Oncological Society, Member of the National Specialist Board for Medical Oncology, Member for the National Cancer Registry, Member of the Australian Medical Association and Medical Oncology Group Australia, Member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and is an Alumni of the Australia/Asia-Pacific Oncology Research Development Workshop (ACORD).

Dr Ng has a special interest in conducting clinical trials and is the Principal Investigator for numerous trials for various cancers, including a national level trial for Nasopharyngeal Cancer based on a Protocol she wrote at an Asia-Pacific research development workshop.
